Donation-A-Week-Neighbors is a volunteer emergency service agency that provides emergency services to needy persons within the Altavista/Hurt area. It is sponsored by the Altavista Area Ministerial Association. DAWN can be reached at (434) 369-7937 or (434) 309-0274. Supported by Lynchburg Daily Bread on Mondays through Wednesdays starting at 11:45.
The Alavista Area Ministerial Association represents ministers and churches in Altavista, Hurt, Gretna, and more. AAMA members include Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Non-Denominational, and many others. Check out AAMA on Facebook.
Second Helping Luncheons
AAMA and DAWN oversee and resource the weekly Second Helping Luncheons, which are hosted in our fellowship hall. Lunch is provided every Wednesday at noon. The meal is free of charge, but a donation is suggested, which supports DAWN.
Lynchburg Daily Bread
Lynchburg Daily Bread is a food pantry that serves a free, nutritious lunch 365 days a year where everyone is welcome. Guests may have as many servings as they wish. More than 98% of the food is donated from local colleges, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.Check out their website for more information! APC sends volunteers every third Wednesday.
Altavista Backpack Program
The Backpack program is an ecumenical mission that provides food for needy families by providing a weekend meal to elementary school children who qualify for free lunch. This program is funded annually by the Abbott Laboratories.
Operation Christmas Child
Franny's House is a shelter for women victims of domestic violence. If you are a woman currently in a domestic violence situation, we encourage you to contact us at the church and we'll put you in contact with a representative of Franny's House.
The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming
love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and
lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as
their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities. Visit their website for more information.
Two Cents-a-Meal is organized by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and distributed by individuals Presbyteries. The first Sunday of every month, APC collects a special offering to support Two Cents-a-Meal. Recipients of grant money include Kairos, Franny's House, Lynchburg Daily Bread, and many others.
