Committee Structure

Ministry Beyond our Congregation Barbie Andrews - Chair, Bill Ferguson - Co-chair

Mission Beyond includes all outreach programs: missionary support, evangelism efforts, mission trips, Presbyterian Home in Lynchburg, sheltered workshop, Habitat for Humanity, Frannie's House, Adult Day Care, Elpis, DAWN and other opportunities which may arise.  In addition this committee promotes benevolence giving of time, talent and funds within the congregation. This committee fosters community awareness, college scholarships, mission education, and it is responsible for advising the Session on the use of the ACT for Missions Trust to encourage and enhance our mission efforts.

Ministry Within our Congregation Jenny Roark - Chair, Mary Woody - Co-chair

Ministry Within the Congregation includes all efforts of congregational care, such as visiting the sick and bereaved, food coordiantion, fellowship events and retreats, Koinonia meals, cluster coordination, Link newsletter, the Pictorial Directory, new member assimilation, Women of Church Fellowship, Advent Workshop, Stewardship Opportunities, Wednesday Prayer Fellowship and any program which fosters Church cohesion and spiritual growth 

Christian Eucation Committee Danna Taylor - Chair, Denise Tucker - Co-chair

The Christian Education Committee shall be responsible for the Christian Education program of the Church.  This includes, but is not limited to: Sunday School, Teacher recruitment and training, Children's Church, Youth Groups, Summer Vacation Bible School, Summer Camp, the Church Library, and Bible Studies for various groups.  O particular concern will be the training of young and old alike for discipleship within the Church.

Worship Committee Jane Strebel - Chair, Kevin deBernard - Co-chair

The Worship Committee recommends to the Session regular opprotunities for Lord's Day worship as well as special times for worship throughout the Church Year (Christmas, Easter, etc.).  It is responsible for the elements fo worship and makes recommendations to the Session for changes in the order of worship.  The appointment of the sanctuary for regular worship and for special seasons of the year (flowers, banners, etc.) fall under the authority of this committee.  It is responsible for ordering the children's nursery, identification & nurture of visitors, and schedudling greeters & ushers.  It trains (along with the Pastor) the Lay Leaders for worship and schedules their involvement in the worship experience.  This Committee makes preparation for the administration of the Sacraments (Baptism and Communion).  With the Pastor, it trains lay leaders to carry The Sacrament to shut-ins at home and hospitals.  This committee secures pulpit supply when needed.

Ministry Support Rob Gilliam - Chair, Al Smith Co-Chair

This area includes all items necessary to support the overall ministry of our congregation: Year round Stewardship Education, development of the annual budget and pledging process, overshight (with the Church Treasurer) of the fiscal well being of the Church, reported to the Session on a monthly basis.  Oversight of extra-budget funding needs and consulting with the other committees on their financial needs and requests. With the Property Committee will assure that the physical property is adequately insured.  This committee has overshight of personnel issues and is the liaison between the Session and the paid staff.

Property Committee Jeffrey Janiak - Chair, David Mabry - Co-chair

The Property Committee is responsible for the overall maintenance of all church properties (interior and exterior).  It shall advise the Ministry Support Committee of special needs which require funds, and secure qualified "contractors" to perform upgrades and repairs that cannot be done by the members of the congregation.  It shall, from time to time, organize work and cleaning days and challenge our members to become involved in the maintenance of our property.  It shall make recommendations to the Session concerning any capital additions or alterations to the property, including the church Manse.  Additionally, the Men of the Church shall fall within the responsibilities of this committee, both to develop a strong support for our property and to encourage spiritual growth of male members of this congregation.
